Supari or Areca nut is seed of areca palm tree growing in tropical regions. It is also known as Beetle nut, Areca catechu, doma and pinang. Supari is considered very auspicious and is used in puja and religious rituals. It is also used in Yagyas or homam. It signifies surrender of ego and is kept in puja altar. Placing it with Beetle leaf signifies blessings, strength, good health and prosperity.
The supari is symbolic of the nut of the ego that must be offered on the altar of God. It represents the hard, coarse qualities that must be surrendered to God, leaving only the soft, pure qualities.
