Indian woman performing Rudraksha energising ritual at home pouring Panchamrit over Rudraksha mala in brass vessel with lit diya incense and Shiva lingam on red cloth altar

How to Energise a Rudraksha at Home

A Rudraksha bead is a sacred gift from nature, but like any spiritual tool it needs to be awakened before it can work at its highest potential. This process is called Prana Pratishtha, which means infusing the bead with life force energy. The good news is that this can be done simply and effectively at home.

At ManiMonk, all our Rudraksha beads and malas are pre-energised before dispatch. However, if you wish to perform the ritual yourself or re-energise your bead after a long period of non-use, this guide will walk you through the complete process.

What You Will Need

  • Your Rudraksha bead or mala
  • Clean water or Gangajal
  • Raw unboiled milk
  • Pure honey
  • Ghee
  • A clean copper or brass vessel
  • Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar)
  • Fresh flowers, preferably white or yellow
  • Incense sticks, preferably sandalwood or dhoop
  • A lit diya with pure ghee or sesame oil
  • Bilva leaves if available

Step by Step Energising Ritual

Step 1 - Purify Yourself Begin by taking a bath and wearing clean clothes, preferably white or saffron. Sit facing east or north in a clean and quiet space. Take a few deep breaths and set a clear intention for why you are energising this Rudraksha.

Step 2 - Cleanse the Rudraksha Place the Rudraksha in a copper or brass vessel. Pour Gangajal or clean water over it while chanting Om Namah Shivaya 11 times. This removes any negative energies absorbed during transit or storage.

Step 3 - Panchamrit Abhishek Bathe the Rudraksha in Panchamrit by pouring milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar over it one by one while chanting Om Namah Shivaya continuously. This is the same ritual performed for Shiva lingam abhishek and is deeply purifying.

Step 4 - Final Rinse Rinse the Rudraksha with clean Gangajal or water to remove the Panchamrit. Pat it dry gently with a clean soft cloth.

Step 5 - Light Incense and Diya Light your incense and diya. Place the Rudraksha in front of your puja deity or Shiva lingam. Offer fresh flowers and bilva leaves if available.

Step 6 - Chant the Beej Mantra Now chant the specific beej mantra for your Rudraksha Mukhi. For most Mukhis, Om Namah Shivaya is the universal mantra. Chant it 108 times using another mala or count on your fingers while holding the Rudraksha in your right hand.

Common Beej Mantras by Mukhi:

  • 1 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah
  • 2 Mukhi: Om Namah
  • 3 Mukhi: Om Kleem Namah
  • 4 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah
  • 5 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah
  • 6 Mukhi: Om Hreem Hum Namah
  • 7 Mukhi: Om Hum Namah
  • 8 Mukhi: Om Gam Namah
  • 9 Mukhi: Om Hreem Hum Namah
  • 10 Mukhi: Om Hreem Namah Namah
  • 11 Mukhi: Om Hreem Hum Namah
  • 12 Mukhi: Om Kraum Sraum Raum Namah
  • 14 Mukhi: Om Namah

Step 7 - Wear with Intention After completing the chanting, touch the Rudraksha to your third eye and then place it around your neck or wrist. Offer a final prayer of gratitude to Lord Shiva and your chosen deity.

When to Re-energise Your Rudraksha

You should re-energise your Rudraksha in the following situations:

  • After it has been touched by someone else repeatedly
  • After attending a funeral or being in a highly negative environment
  • After a long period of not wearing it
  • If you feel the bead has become energetically dull or heavy
  • On auspicious days like Mahashivratri, Shravan Mondays, or Pradosh

Best Days and Times for Energising

  • Monday is the most auspicious day for Rudraksha energising as it is ruled by Lord Shiva
  • Brahma Muhurta, the period between 4 AM and 6 AM, is the most powerful time
  • Shravan month is considered the most sacred period for any Shiva related ritual
  • Mahashivratri is the single most powerful day for energising Rudraksha

Tips for Maintaining the Energy

  • Wear your Rudraksha regularly as your own energy keeps it charged
  • Chant Om Namah Shivaya daily while wearing it
  • Oil it with sesame oil once a month to keep it physically and energetically healthy
  • Avoid letting others wear or touch your Rudraksha as it absorbs personal energy

Final Thought

Energising your Rudraksha is an act of devotion and intention. The ritual does not need to be elaborate or perfect. What matters most is your sincerity, your faith, and your connection to the divine. A Rudraksha energised with love and devotion becomes a lifelong companion on your spiritual path.
